For flexographic printers running large-format production, including corrugated boxes, pre-print products, flexible packaging and folding cartons, the quality of plate imaging directly decides your final print results. A large format flexo CTP machine effectively eliminates inconsistent outputs from traditional analog plate-making, delivering reliable digital precision for mass production. This guide explains how large format flexo CTP technology works, key factors to check before purchase, and how Bowin Global CDI machines stand out from competing solutions.

CTP refers to Computer-to-Plate. A flexo CTP machine, also known as a CDI, adopts laser technology to engrave digital images directly onto photopolymer flexo plates. It removes the conventional film exposure workflow and streamlines the entire plate-making process. Our large format flexo CTP model supports plate sizes up to 2032 × 1270mm (80 × 50 inches). It is an ideal choice for wide-web corrugated and packaging applications, where standard-size CTP devices cannot meet production demands.
The full plate-making workflow consists of four simple, automated steps:
Load the photopolymer plate onto the machine drum. Equipped with bidirectional foot pedals, the system supports hands-free operation and greatly speeds up plate loading.
The device automatically scans plate thickness ranging from 0.11mm to 6.35mm and adjusts the focal point intelligently. No manual calibration is required during operation.
A high-precision laser ablates the black mask layer on the plate according to digital files. The imaging resolution can reach 2400dpi or 4800dpi, to match different printing job requirements.
After laser engraving, the exposed plate is sent to a washer for development. You can choose water-wash or solvent-wash washers based on your plate type. Compared with traditional plate-making methods, plates produced by flexo CTP feature sharper dot reproduction and more accurate registration, ready for direct printing.

Performance varies greatly among different large format flexo CTP machines. The following specifications play a decisive role in your production efficiency and print quality.
Production capacity is the most intuitive indicator of throughput. BW5080F-II: Output of 2.8 m²/h BW5080F-III: Output of 4.2 m²/h The BW5080F-III delivers 50% higher productivity with the same plate size. For multi-shift high-volume workshops, this performance gap will bring obvious advantages in overall output.
This series covers a wide plate thickness from 0.11mm to 6.35mm. One single machine can process thin label plates and thick corrugated plates without manual adjustment. The built-in auto-focus system adapts to all thickness changes automatically.
Printing machines from different brands have different repeat lengths. The online minification adjustment function compensates for plate stretch directly on the flexo CTP machine. Designers no longer need to recalculate dimensions repeatedly.
Marble platforms have a much lower coefficient of thermal expansion than ordinary steel. In workshops with temperature fluctuations, the linear motor system with marble base can maintain long-term imaging accuracy. This is a critical detail to judge overall build quality.
The BW5080F series supports a full range of mainstream plates, compatible with both water-wash and solvent-wash workflows: Digital photopolymer flexo plates (water-washable & solvent-washable) Dry laser ablation film Steel-based digital flexo plates Thermal digital flexo plates

Our large format flexo CTP machines are widely used in multiple industries: Label and sticker printing Flexible packaging for food, beverage and consumer goods Corrugated box printing Folding carton printing Trademark printing Pre-print for corrugated board If your business covers multiple printing sectors, this multi-functional CTP machine can handle all your plate-making tasks.
Q: Are there special requirements for workshop conditions?
A: The machine runs stably at 18–30℃, with relative humidity between 40% and 70% (no condensation required). A cleanroom is not necessary. The auto-focus function adapts to normal temperature fluctuations.
Q: What about data connection settings?
A: It is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port. The editing computer can be placed over 100 meters away. Standard network cables work well, and no dedicated hardware is needed.
Q: What is the standard lead time?
A: Our standard delivery lead time is 25 days. Custom OEM and ODM configurations are available upon request.
Q: What supporting equipment do I need for the CTP machine?
A: After laser engraving, plates need exposure and washing. Bowin Global provides matching UV exposure machines and plate washers to build a complete plate-making line.
Bowin Global has supplied professional flexo plate-making equipment to customers across more than 60 countries worldwide. We own a 30,000 ㎡ manufacturing base and guarantee a 25-day standard lead time. Every machine undergoes strict testing before delivery.
